There’s a couple of things I really like about this section. The first is Xiphos calling Cait about about getting put at the kids table every time there’s a big decision being made. She’s right: she is an officer on the Rose, even if most of them are, and she deserves to be included in these decisions. This sort of thing doesn’t come easy for Xiphos, but I know she’s glad she did it.

Xiphos got stronger all of a sudden. She’s suddenly very determined, which I think is a good thing for her. She needs to learn she can do it, that she can actually make a case for something. And I think Cait is a little impressed, too, but not surprised. She’s been grooming Xiphos for at least a First Mate position, if not Captain, since the Ugliness.

The other is seeing Cait flustered about something. To be honest, I’ve been trying to figure out how to break her, because breaking characters is interesting. I almost broke Xiphos, but reality wouldn’t allow for it. We’ll talk more about how that would have happened at the end of this Act. I know what it would take to break Cait, and that’s something I’ll leave for another notes section, if we ever get to it. (Hint: It’s not easy).

So what’s in the cargo bay? Not tellin’. But I promise it’s something, and I’m not just messing with you.

As always, any questions or comments you have are totally welcome.
